The main event between Smilla Sundell and Natalia Diachkova at ONE Fight Night 22 did not disappoint.
Despite the champion missing weight and being stripped of her crown, Smilla Sundell powered through to get the victory at Lumpinee Stadium.
Smilla Sundell beats Natalia Diachkova
The Russian Natalia Diachkova started strong and had success with her boxing in the first round.
As round two went on, it was clear the boxing had an effect as a welt began to appear under the left eye of Smilla.
With round two coming to a close, it seemed like the Russian was taking control of the fight.
However, in the final few seconds of round two, Smilla Sundell landed a crushing body shot.
Natalia curled up and held her body, backing up towards her own corner as Smilla Sundell poured on the pressure.
The Swede was relentless as she landed multiple body shots then knees to the head. Natalia was unresponsive as she folded over the ropes and the referee waved the fight off.
Smilla calls for a Flyweight division
Despite the win, Smilla Sundell was ineligible to retain her title or win a $50K knockout bonus.
I want my belt back. I may be able to do it one more time. But what I want the most is a Flyweight division.
In her post-fight interview, she told Mitch Chilson she thinks she may be able to make the Strawweight limit one more time with enough notice, but what she’d like the most is a Women’s Flyweight division.
