Celest Hansen Earns Third-Round Stoppage at Muay Thai Super Champ

Earlier today, Australian fighter Celest Hansen made her return to Muay Thai Super Champ.

She faced tough Thai opponent, Gusjung Fairtex, in a 50kg bout on the weekly Thai Channel 8 event at Patong Stadium.

In the first round, Hansen was caught with a flash headkick, but it didn’t seem to phase the tough Aussie, as she bit down on her gumshield and continued to march forward.

Overwhelming her Thai opponent with punch combinations, she landed a huge overhand right in the second round, which knocked Gusjung Fairtex to the canvas.

The referee gave the Thai a questionably long eight-count, as there was a sense of confusion whether the bout was going to continue, but Gusjung finally got to her feet and carried on the bout.

Later in round three, Celest Hansen found more success with her punches, visibly hurting Gusjung on most exchanges, before a series of body shots dropped her to the canvas again, this time the referee waving off the fight.

The Australian now improves to 25-12-1, and despite a mixed set of results in recent years, five of her last seven wins have now ended by way of stoppage.

Since the closure of local stadiums around Phuket at the start of the COVID 19 pandemic, we’ve only seen the Australian face Thai opponents on Muay Hardcore and Muay Thai Super Champ.

With the inclusion of Singpatong’s five-round bouts now on the weekly schedule however, it’s entirely possible we could see Celest Hansen against some of the other top foreign female Muay Thai fighters in Thailand in the near future.

Celest Hansen also fought Petchjeeja Lukjaoporongtom at THAI FIGHT in 2020. She also made history as the very first foreign female fighter to compete in the main ring at Lumpinee Stadium, when she faced Nongnuk Kiatmoo9 in November 2021.
