Daniel McGowan Eyes ONE Strawweight Muay Thai Top 5

Daniel McGowan

If you’re an avid Muay Thai enthusiast, Daniel McGowan will need no introduction. If you’re relatively new to the sport, however, you’d be forgiven for not knowing the name.

“There are some great lads in there and it will only get better, but I’m 100% confident that I have the skills, experience and ability to beat anyone.”

The Past

Plagued with a hand injury, Daniel McGowan hasn’t competed since November 2018. Before the injury, though, he was well on his way to achieving what very few foreign Muay Thai fighters have achieved.

With over 40 career fights, McGowan was paving his way to Muay Thai stardom when the recurring injury halted his plans. He had already achieved what many UK Muay Thai fighters dream of.

Winning MTGP and ICO World titles, McGowan had also secured the UK Featherweight #1 spot, and whilst fighting out of Petchyindee Academy in Thailand, he went unbeaten at Rajadamnern and Lumpinee Stadium.

Other notable achievements include a points win over former Thailand champion Thanadet Tor.Pran49, a knockout win over Rungnarai Kiatmoo9, and a huge elbow knockout of Saengmorakot Sakphinyo at Rajadamnern Stadium.

The Present

After a multiple surgery and a slow recovery, McGowan began easing back in to training. Earlier this year, he made the move up north to train with the team at Bad Company gym in Leeds.

Training and sparring with the likes of Liam Harrison, Andy Howson, Joe Craven, Jordan Watson and many more, McGowan says training at this level has brought his confidence back again and he believes he possesses the skills and ability to beat anyone.

The Future

So what could be next for the Featherweight star who has competed at the very highest level in Muay Thai? Could an imminent move to ONE Championship be on the cards?

McGowan has his sights set on the top 5 ranked Strawweight Muay Thai stars. With team-mate Andy Howson ranked at #5, any of the above 4 and the Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao could be an interesting clash for McGowan.

Josh Tonna, Joseph Lasiri, Rocky Ogden and Daren Rolland all occupy a spot in the Strawweight Muay Thai rankings, and McGowan would be interested in facing any of them.

“There are some great lads in there and it will only get better, but I’m 100% confident that I have the skills, experience and ability to beat anyone.”
