Iman Barlow - Muay Thai World Games 2022

The UK’s Iman Barlow etched her name in the history books once again earlier today. She defeated USA’s Tierra Brandt to win gold at the World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama.

In November last year, “Pretty Killer” made history when she won gold at the IFMA World Championships. She became the UK’s first fighter to win a gold medal in modern-era IFMA Muay Thai tournaments. Just ninth months later, she cemented her place in history by winning gold at The World Games.

The gold medal at the IFMA World Championships in November 2021, earned Barlow qualification to the World Games, which featured many of the world’s elite Muay Thai fighters competing across 13 weight categories. One of which included Iman Barlow’s compatriot, Niamh Kinehan, who suffered defeat to tournament favourite Nili Block in the semi-finals of the 60kg category on Saturday.

Barlow, however, cruised to victory in the quarter-final bout against Portugal’s Matilde Rodrigues on Friday. She then defeated Sweden’s Patricia Axling for a second time in the semi-finals on Saturday. Earlier today she edged out a close points win against the talented American, Tierra Brandt to win the gold medal in the 57kg category.

Meanwhile, Patricia Axling defeated Ching Yee Tsang to win the bronze medal. The final medal standings for the Female Elite 57kg category look like this;

  • Iman Barlow (Gold)
  • Tierra Brandt (Silver)
  • Patricia Axling (Bronze)

In other female weight categories at The World Games 2022, Monika Chochlikova won gold in the 51kg category, Sveva Melillo took the gold in the 54kg division, and the USA’s Charlsey Maner defeated Nili Block (who defeated Niamh Kinehan in the semi-finals) to win gold in the 60kg category.
