Interview With Claire Clements Ahead of Fight With Slaheoldine Thomas This Weekend
We spoke with Claire to get her thoughts ahead of the fight with WBC National Champion Ms Thomas on her home show ‘Stand Up and Fight’ in Newcastle tomorrow.
How has training camp gone for this fight?
Claire: “Training camp has gone really well. It’s been amazing pushing through this camp with the rest of the Faktory fighters. Jim really has pushed me hard and I’m feeling strong and ready!”
Did you have to change your training at all after the change of opponent?
Claire: “I didn’t have to change too much but I did get a lot more excited about the clinch with a taller opponent.”
It’s a bigger test now with WBC National Champion Thomas as your opponent, how you feel about that?
Claire: “I didn’t know much about my previous opponent, so the challenge was the ‘unknown’. With Thomas, I’ve seen a bit about her and it’s been a fight in the making.”
How do you see the fight going on Sunday?
Claire: “Me winning.”
Can you tell us about your career and your achievements so far?
Claire: “I’ve achieved the following titles:
- WBC Regional Muay Thai title
- WKA World Muay Thai title
- Duel National title
- WTKA English K1 title
- WTKA European Muay Thai title
“I started around 6-years-ago and never believed I could ever achieve what I’ve managed to achieve, training under Jim Burn. In regards to what’s next, I leave all that up to the boss man.”
How do you manage a busy training schedule with teaching at the Faktory?
Claire: “Training and teaching is not a problem. It’s the four kids, my part-time job, dog and partner that is tricky! Hahaha!”
Any message for your opponent this weekend?
Claire: “I’m really really looking forward to this fight. I’ll be having fun in this fight, but I’ll not be playing.”
And finally would you like to say a special thanks to anyone?
Claire: “Massive thanks to Jim Burn and all the Faktory team for the training and fight camp. You can’t do this alone, so having this team around me has meant the world.
“I’d also like to make a shout out to my beautiful daughter Bella and my son Riley. They help me in fight week by letting me smell their chocolate bars (haha) and generally being awesome in every way!”
