ONE Championship recently announced nine bouts for the ONE: Dawn of Heroes fight card set for the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philipines on Friday 2nd August.
After his sensational victory over Sam-A Gaiyanghadao to win the Flyweight Muay Thai world title at ONE: For Honor on 3rd May, Jonathan Haggerty will now make his first defence against the challenger Rodtang Jitmuangnon.
Just a week after Haggerty’s world title win, the ‘Iron Man’ Rodtang annihilated Cambodian star Sok Thy with a second-round stoppage to secure a title shot against the Englishman at the 20,000-capacity arena in Manila.
“I was really happy when he called me out”, Rodtang told ONE. “I want to fight him, and I want a World Title shot. I think it is going to be an incredible match-up”, he explained.
“To fight with Haggerty, I have to be 100% confident in myself. I’ll be making sure my body is in top form to help guarantee a win. I’m planning to take my training to the next level for the World Title fight.”
After four-straight wins in ONE Championship, the man from Phattalung has looked incredible so far and has earned his shot at the champion, but it will be tough task against the technical 22-year-old Englishman, who dethroned the 400+ fight veteran Sam-A Gaiyanghadao last month.
With just 15 professional bouts in his career, Jonathan Haggerty has already proven himself as one of the best Flyweight athletes on the planet.
Holding victories over the likes of world ranked opponents Isaac Araya and Joseph Lasiri in his ONE debut, Haggerty shocked the world when he battled his way to a five-round unanimous decision win over Sam-A in Jakarta on 3rd May.
The Flyweight championship contest will be part of a stacked card in Manila set to be the biggest in Filipino history which includes MMA bouts featuring Eddie Alvarez, Demetrious Johnson and the semi-finals of the Flyweight Grand Prix.
