Reigning PFL Women’s Flyweight World Champion Dakota Ditcheva returns to the cage on Friday, July 31 for the first time in over a year, headlining a women’s flyweight matchup with Dutch striker Denise Kielholtz at PFL New York.
The Manchester native has not fought since 19 July 2025, when she took a clean unanimous decision over Sumiko Inaba at PFL Champions Series 2.
The Kielholtz fight was originally booked for PFL Dubai on 7 February 2026, but a training-camp injury forced Ditcheva out and pushed the matchup back a further six months. She now closes out a 12-month layoff at the Prudential Center, with the same opponent still waiting on the other side of the cage.
A year away from the cage
Ditcheva (15-0) has spent the past 12 months in rehab in Greater Manchester rather than on the winning track that made her the youngest world champion in PFL history in November 2024. Her 2024 season was the most complete run any PFL fighter put together that year — four finishes in four bouts, culminating in the body-punch stoppage of Taila Santos to win the Women’s Flyweight tournament, the $1 million prize and the belt she still holds.
Since then, she has fought once (the Inaba decision) and been withdrawn from one (the aborted Dubai booking). By fight night on July 31, it will have been over 12 months since her last outing — a long window for a fighter still short of her 28th birthday.
It also gives her a longer runway back to full than she would have had in Dubai, which is likely part of the calculation behind waiting for a proper return date.
Kielholtz brings championship pedigree
Denise Kielholtz is not the standard test for a returning champion. The 36-year-old Dutch striker is a multi-organisation kickboxing and Muay Thai world champion. Her résumé includes a Bellator Kickboxing world title and multiple WKA and WMC belts — before she moved to MMA with Bellator and stayed on the roster through the PFL’s absorption of the promotion.
Her striking pedigree is the closest thing to a like-for-like matchup Ditcheva could face at 125lbs. If Kielholtz can turn the fight into a stand-up battle, there is fireworks potential; if Ditcheva lands the same body work that finished Taila Santos, Chelsea Hackett and Cornelia Holm, she moves straight back into the picture for a big fight to close out 2026.
What’s on the line at PFL New York
Ditcheva’s belt is not on the line at PFL New York. the bout is contested as a non-title flyweight matchup, but her #1 ranking, her career momentum and the storyline for the rest of her 2026 all sit on top of Friday night. A clean return keeps her at the front of the flyweight queue and reopens conversations about a proper title defence later in the year.
A loss to Kielholtz, on the other hand, would be the first setback of Ditcheva’s professional career and reset the timeline on a fighter who was building towards being the face of PFL’s women’s division. Either way, the biggest question the PFL has had in 2026 is; is Dakota Ditcheva still the same fighter after a year on the sidelines?
