British Muay Thai prodigy Joe Ryan was in fine form in his second appearance at RWS Muay Thai. He defeated Reza Ahmadnezhad via unanimous decision on September 23.
The 19-year-old made his RWS Muay Thai debut on August 19. Then he faced off against the tall and tricky Brazilian, Emerson Bento.
In that bout, Joe got caught early with an elbow which opened a huge cut on his forehead. Although he looked comfortable in rounds 2 and 3, the judges gave the decision to the Brazilian.
Joe Ryan beats Reza at RWS Muay Thai
Just five weeks after the loss against Bento, Joe Ryan was back in action at RWS Muay Thai. This time, he faced experienced Iranian Muay Thai star, Reza Ahmadnezhad. The stakes were high in this bout, as it was announced the winner would earn a Rajadamnern Stadium title shot.
Reza had already competed in the RWS Super-Welterweight tournament earlier in 2023. He had shared the ring with the likes of Thananchai Sitsongpeenong and Nayanesh Ayman.
Joe Ryan put on one of the best performances of his career. Overwhelming Reza with his technical ability, he won all three rounds comfortably. The performance also earned him a 100,000 Baht performance-of-the-night bonus.
Joe Ryan vs Bento rematch
Straight after Joe Ryan’s victory over Reza, the Rajadamnern Stadium title was on the line. Beckham BigwinChampion faced Bento for the vacant middleweight strap.
Bento won all five rounds and won the title, which sets up a thrilling rematch between the pair. After the bout, Joe Ryan entered the ring to face-off with the newly crowned champion.
After an eight-week stay at Sitsongpeenong Gym, Joe is now scheduled to return home to the UK. However, with a title shot secured, it won’t be long until we see the wonderkid back at Rajadamnern Stadium.
