To celebrate five years of Fight Record, this year we launched our very own Fighter of the Year awards.
To maintain some prestige, we organised a panel of industry experts to cast their votes. This way, we kept the awards as fair and open as possible. This wasn’t just our own opinion, but the opinion of a collective group of UK Muay Thai experts.
The initial nominees were selected based on activity, wins, titles and achievements, and of course level of opposition.
The group of five male and six female fighters were sent to our panel of judges to cast their votes. The panel were: Steve Broome (Thai Fighter UK), Brian Calder (SuperShowDown), Rob Cox (ONE Championship Official), Jesse Saunders (Shinkick Muay Thai), Ali McOnie (RWS Muay Thai Commentator) and Mark Cuggy (Sortaksin).
Each judge scored the fighters, giving 3 points to their favoured fighter in each of the male and female categories, 2 to their runner-up and 1 point to third. The male and female fighter with the total amount of points was declared the Fight Record ‘Fighter of the Year’ 2022.
