Sources at RWS Muay Thai have confirmed that Mexican striker Laura Burgos has been elevated from interim to undisputed Rajadamnern Stadium Women’s Bantamweight champion. The promotion vacated the reign of Brazil’s Barbara Aguiar to install Burgos as the full belt-holder at 118 lb.
Burgos becomes the first Mexican fighter ever to hold a Rajadamnern Stadium title — a notable milestone for Mexican Muay Thai, which has produced a number of international medallists but has historically struggled for representation at Bangkok’s most prestigious venue.
From World Games gold to Rajadamnern gold
The 27-year-old Burgos arrived at Rajadamnern Stadium with one of the strongest amateur résumés in women’s Muay Thai. She won gold in the 54 kg division at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, edging Poland’s Martina Kierczynska 29-28 in a tight final. That followed a silver medal at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham and back-to-back gold medals at the IFMA World Championships in 2024 and 2025.
Her professional breakthrough came on May 23, 2026, when she knocked out Thai contender NongMay in the third round to claim the interim Rajadamnern Stadium Women’s Bantamweight title. The bout was originally scheduled as a defence for Aguiar, who withdrew before the contest. RWS Muay Thai moved Burgos in as the replacement headliner with the interim belt on the line.
Aguiar’s second reign ends without a defence
Barbara Aguiar first won the Rajadamnern Stadium Women’s Bantamweight belt on February 22, 2025, beating Marie Ruumet in the inaugural title bout at 118 lb. She was stripped in October 2025 for missing the weight limit, then reclaimed the vacant title on February 7, 2026 with a decision over Canada’s Morgane Mary-Pouliot.
Her second reign now ends without a successful defence. The vacating of Aguiar’s belt makes Burgos the fourth recognised champion in the title’s short history, following Aguiar (twice) and inaugural champion Somratsamee ManopGym.
What’s next at 118 lb?
No first defence has been announced for the new champion. The division remains busy with many new challengers joining the rankings. Somratsamee, who was the first ever female to win a Rajadamnern Stadium title, has recently returned to the Bantamweight division. There’s also Morgane Mary-Pouliot, Monika Chochkilova, or even a new challenger from the contender pool.
What is certain: Burgos walks into her first title defence as the first Mexican to ever wear a Rajadamnern Stadium belt — and the most decorated amateur to ever hold one of the venue’s women’s titles.
