Liu Mengyang Outpoints Gabriel Pereira to Set Up Superbon Title Shot

Liu “Spirit Dragon” Mengyang took a major step toward a world title shot on Friday, May 22. The Chinese striker outpointed Gabriel Pereira by unanimous decision at The Inner Circle. The featherweight kickboxing co-main took place at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.

Liu improved his career record to 36-7. The Shunyuan Fight Club athlete solidified himself as the next challenger for ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion Superbon.

A tactical masterclass

Liu executed a disciplined game plan from the opening bell. Liu, 23, neutralised the Venezuelan’s power across three rounds of action. He used range, footwork and crisp counter striking to control the contest.

Pereira came in with a 40-1 record and a four fight winning streak. He hunted for the big shots that had brought him to that point. Liu refused to engage on Pereira’s terms and instead picked him apart from distance.

What’s next

Liu now appears to be the clear front runner for the next shot at ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion Superbon. He has spent years building a case as the most polished striker in the division. His win over Pereira closes the argument.
