ONE Championship have today announced interim champion Nico Carrillo has now been elevated to undisputed ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion.
The news follows the announcement that former champion Tawanchai has vacated the title while he continues to recover from injury.
Tawanchai vacated ONE Featherweight Muay Thai title
Former champion Tawanchai has been sidelined since his loss against Liu Mengyang in December 2025, where the Chinese kickboxer broke his leg with a low kick.
With the champion out of action, Nico Carrillo went on to face Shadow for the interim title in February this year. He defeated Shadow by decision to become the ONE Interim Featherweight Muay Thai World champion.
Since then, Nico Carrillo has been vocal about wanting to stay active and defend his title. But with the division thin on opponents, he’s been forced to take a kickboxing bout against Chinese newcomer Zhao Jiaqiang at ONE Fight Night 46 on August 15.
Nico Carrillo eleveated to undisputed ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion
With Tawanchai still sidelined indefinitely, and no sign of a return date, he’s now vacated the Featherweight title and Nico Carrillo has been elevated to undisputed champion.
Although his attention will be very much on the kickboxing task at hand, I’m sure he’ll be waiting and ready to defend his newly crowned undisputed championship against the next challenger. Whether that’s Tawanchai or someone else.
