With 12 wins and 14 losses at the Championships in Bangkok this week, the Swedish team have had their fair share of heartbreak, with the likes of Jessica Pettersson, Camilla Danielsson, Mathias Jonsson and Patricia Axling all falling in the early stages.
Earlier today, Swedish National Championship finalist Kenny Hong crashed out of the tournament after a 30-27 decision loss to home favourite Suchakhri Ruanthai of Thailand.
Other Swedish nationals Anton Sjoqvist and Ewin Ates both lost decisions and three-time Swedish champion Giang Hoang retired against Kazakhstan’s Bakytzhan Arifkhanov.
Sara Matsson won her quarter-final bout with a first round stoppage over New Zealand’s Jade Danielle Fleetwood and Jonathan Larsson earned a second round KO against Iran’s Seyed Kaveh Soleymani Safakhaneh earlier today.
Tomorrow will see rising star Nicholas Bryant face Afghan Sayed Rohullah Mosawi in the quart-final of the Elite A -57kg category and Jonathan Larsson is up against China’s Bing Yuan in the quarter-final of the Elite A -71kg division.
