In 2021, Carrillo defeated top ranked UK Muay Thai fighters, Mo Abdurahman and Jack Kennedy, both by stoppage.
These victories earned the Glaswegian recognition from both fans and top Muay Thai organisations alike, including WBC and WMO Muaythai, who both catapulted Carrillo into the top 10 of their Super-Lightweight World rankings.
Finishing off a big year, Nico dismissed Spanish opponent, Dani Molero, with another stoppage victory to win the WBC Muaythai European title.
This led many fans to call for a fight against current WBC Muaythai International champion, Nathan Bendon. Many others also said he deserves to be signed by global martial arts giants, ONE Championship.
In a statement published by Nico Carrillo on Sunday, he stated that he had signed with ONE Championship.
The statement read, “Big news on the way. King of the North hits the biggest stage on the planet”, followed by tagging ONE Championship and owner Chatri Sityodtong.
With nothing official from ONE Championship, Nico Carrillo fans are eagerly waiting the official announcement.
