Stamp Fairtex admits she hasn’t felt like herself since her lengthy absence due to an injury, but the former three-sport ONE world champion believes she could change that at ONE Fight Night 47 this week.
The 28-year-old steps through the ropes for an Atomweight Muay Thai battle against multi-time WBC Muay Thai world champion Selina Flores. Their matchup headlines the American primetime card inside Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday, September 4.
Stamp has gone 1-1 since returning to action following a torn meniscus in her left knee, which required surgery and extensive rehab. The Fairtex Training Center went down to Kana before returning to the winner’s column with a gutsy split decision against Cynthia Flores this past June.
Now she wants to continue building momentum to regain some much-needed confidence. Stamp shared:
“The most important thing in this fight is beating Selina to get my confidence back and restore the fans’ faith in me. I need to redeem myself after the last fight because everyone said my performance was really bad and that I didn’t fight well at all. I’ll give it everything I’ve got.”
As game as she is to dish out a trademark display, Stamp isn’t just going to drop her guard in search of the spectacular against someone of Flores’ caliber. Based on her homework, the Fairtex representative knows she has a tough day in the office.
The American arrives in this clash looking to make it two wins in a row under the promotional banner after a solid five-round showing against Marie McManamon at ONE Fight Night 36.
That fight, in particular, has provided the former ONE world champion insights on what she’ll need to do to make sure this matchup goes her way. Stamp continued:
“I’ve watched her fighting style. She has long legs and long arms, and her teep is good enough that I think she deserves the nickname ‘Teep Queen.’ She’s also good at fighting offensively and defensively.”
“What should make this fight exciting is probably when I have to come forward and try to score. She’s longer than me, so she’ll have to maintain her distance and use her kicks and punches from her range. I’ll have to be the one coming forward.”
Stamp wants an MMA return next
Once she’s taken care of business at ONE Fight Night 47, Stamp is desperate to return to the sport that completed her historic run as the promotion’s only world champion in three different disciplines – Muay Thai, MMA, and kickboxing.
She continued:
“I want to reclaim my status as a three-sport World Champion. Everyone still calls me that, so I hope I can achieve it and really do it. If I get the opportunity to do it, I want to. I want to get back to the place where I used to stand out.”
She owns an 11-2 record in the discipline, with five knockout and submission triumphs under her belt. Her last appearance came against Ham Seo Hee, whom she beat to claim the ONE women’s Atomweight MMA world championship just months before the cruel injury came knocking at her door.
Before any talk about a return to the all-encompassing sport, the Thai’s radar is fully focused on the task at hand awaiting her inside the ring at ONE Fight Night 47 this week.
