How is our ONE Power Rankings scored?

Power Rankings are a way to recognise the significance of an athletes form and results. With ONE Championship now hosting regular weekly events at Lumpinee Stadium, it was the perfect time to illustrate results in ONE Championship.

Therefore, in the second part of 2023 we released the very first ONE Power Rankings.

How is the ONE Power Rankings scored?

The weekly ONE Friday Fights events are a feeder show for the ‘bigger’ ONE Fight Night events. Therefore the significance of a victory at ONE Friday Fights has to be considered slightly lower than a ‘Fight Night’ win. With this in mind, we built in an ‘Event Factor’ to our ONE Power Rankings system.

Event Factor

  • Win at ONE Friday Fights: 1 point
  • Win at ONE Fight Night: 2 points

Then, there is also an ‘Opponent Factor’. Naturally, defeating a former champion or ranked opponent scores higher than beating an unranked fighter.

Opponent Factor

  • Win vs former champion: 3 points
  • Win vs ranked opponent: 2 points
  • Win vs unranked opponent: 1 point

Finally, of course, the method of victory is also a crucial part of the scoring system. Stoppage wins earn more points than a points victory, and the earlier the stoppage the better.

Method of Victory

  • Points win: 1 points
  • First round stoppage: 3 points
  • Second round stoppage: 2 points
  • Third, fourth or fifth round stoppage: 1 point

For the sake of the formula, let’s give these factors some abbreviations;

  • Win: W
  • Method: M
  • Opponent Factor: OF
  • Event Factor: EF
  • Total Power Points: PP

The scoring formula for each bout therefore looks like this;

(W + M) x (OP x EF) = PP

So, as an example, Jonathan Haggerty‘s first round knockout of Nong-O Gaiyanghadao earned him 24 power points.

(1 + 3) x (3 x 2) = 24

With events happening every week, the ONE Power Rankings are always changing. So make sure to check back every week for the up-to-date standings in our ONE Power Rankings.
