In 2022, GSV partnered with Rajadamnern Stadium to launch RWS Muay Thai, introducing innovative rule sets and high-quality production to enhance the spectator experience. The initiative seeks to identify the world’s best strikers by hosting annual tournaments that attract top-tier talent.
History of Female Muay Thai at Rajadamnern Stadium
For much of its history, Rajadamnern Stadium—one of Thailand’s most prestigious Muay Thai venues—prohibited female fighters from competing within its ring. This ban was rooted in traditional beliefs and cultural norms that viewed the presence of women in the ring as inauspicious. As a result, female athletes were barred from participating in events at Rajadamnern Stadium, reflecting broader societal attitudes towards women’s roles in combat sports.
First Female Fight at Rajadamnern Stadium (2022)
A significant milestone was achieved on August 5, 2022, when Rajadamnern Stadium hosted its first-ever female Muay Thai fights, effectively ending a 77-year prohibition. The inaugural bout featured Aida Looksaikongdin from Thailand against Zahra Venum Muay Thai. This historic event marked a turning point in the sport, symbolizing a shift towards greater inclusivity and recognition of female fighters in Muay Thai.
First Female Rajadamnern Stadium Title (December 2023)
The progression of women’s Muay Thai at Rajadamnern Stadium continued with another landmark achievement on December 23, 2023. On this date, Somratsamee Manop Gym became the first female fighter to win a Rajadamnern Stadium title, claiming the Female Bantamweight Championship. This victory not only underscored her personal accomplishments but also highlighted the evolving landscape of Muay Thai, where female athletes are increasingly celebrated and provided with platforms to showcase their talents.
