UK Muay Thai history could be made next Saturday, December 16. Joe Ryan could potentially become the very first British Muay Thai fighter to win a Rajadamnern Stadium title. He’ll face #3 ranked Petchmai for the vacant crown on Saturday, December 16.
Why was Bento stripped of the title?
Bento won the title in October, defeating Beckham comfortably over 5 rounds. Bento was offered a rematch against Joe Ryan on the December 16 card. However, Bento had agreed to compete in a tournament in Cambodia instead.
In the tournament, Bento was beaten by knockout. There’s a clear rule adopted by all the top organisations around the world that states; if an organisations champion loses a non-title fight by knockout, at the weight in which they are champion, they will be stripped of their champion status.
Therefore, during the latest committee meeting at Rajadamnern Stadium, the decision was made to relinquish Bento of the belt. And, since #1 Joe Ryan and #3 Petchmai were already scheduled to face each other, it made sense for them to compete for the now vacant Rajadamnern Stadium Middleweight title.
Despite the narrow defeat to Bento in August, Joe Ryan claimed the #1 spot with a solid victory over Reza Ahmadnezhad in September. He will now look to make history by becoming the first ever UK Muay Thai fighter to win a Rajadamnern Stadium title when he faces Petchmai on Saturday, December 16.
