Team GB fly the flag in Cancun for IMFA World Championships

Team GB landed in Cancun ahead of the IFMA World Championships this week, and having enjoyed the sunshine, it was time to get down to business today as the draw for the first bouts and plans for the event were laid out to all of the 78 national teams.

The British team of Leigh Newton, Liam McGrandles, Natty Dodds and Michael Bradbury along with coaches Tommy Collins and Henry Cleminson arrived in the beach-front location which has on-site training facilities. The athletes can choose from over 30 restaurants and cafes on site for meals covering any dietary requirement.

Each athlete is required to bring a full medical certificate including blood tests. They also place strict policies on weight-cutting; dehydration and physical tests must be provided before registration to ensure athletes make the weight category without any risk to their health.

These athletes have come from 78 countries around the world to share the love for one sport. They fight under one roof, eat the same food, compete under the same rules and share the same ring. IFMA also adopt a Fair Play programme which includes the One World One Muaythai Family Policy in which cultural and political differences have no place in the athletes’ world.
