A huge Super-Lightweight bout goes down tonight at MGTP 34 in Wolverhampton as Irish striking sensation Craig Coakley takes on George Mouzakitis.
Coakley, who has been out of the ring since the WBC Muaythai Diamond title bout against Singdam in Dublin back in July, is looking for an active year in 2020, with three bouts already confirmed, and is confident of derailing the win-streak of Mouzakitis tonight.
We spoke to the Dublin Combat Academy star ahead of his bout at MGTP 34 this weekend;
How has training been for this fight? Are you feeling fresh and ready after no competition since July?
Craig: “Training has been great as always. I’ve been non-stop since July so I’ve had a chance to work on a few areas, but I’m always in the gym whether in or out of fight camp.”
What do you know about your opponent this weekend?
Craig: “I know a good bit about George. He’s someone I’ve watched for a while and had my eye on before we got matched.
“He has a good style; he kicks well, strong in the clinch, good elbows, etc. He’s no joke and I’m not taking him lightly.”
What’s your mindset going into this fight?
Craig: “My mindset remains the same as always; kill or be killed.”
You’re fighting George close to his hometown. Will there be many travelling Irish fans to see you fight this weekend?
Craig: “I’m always fighting lads in their back yard. I don’t mind it, I like it actually. You’ll hear my fans regardless.”
You’ve got three fights booked in so far this year. Is there anything else in the works you can tell us about?
Craig: “Just the three so far. The one that hasn’t been announced yet is a huge fight though, so hopefully it goes to plan.”
