UK #1 and WBC Muaythai World champion, Niamh Kinehan, has been selected to represent Great Britain at the upcoming World Games 2022 in Alabama, USA, in July.
The female Muay Thai fighter, who trains out of Frank’s Gym in Manchester, will join fellow-Brit, Iman Barlow, who also makes the journey across the Atlantic to fly her country’s flag in the biggest sporting
Before that, though, Niamh will head down under to make her first defence of the WBC Muaythai World title, when she takes on Australian National champion, Shannon Gardiner, at Muay Thai Grand Prix in Perth.
Niamh won the title when she defeated Ludovica Ciarpaglini with a comfortable five-round points victory at SuperShowDown back in February this year.
Niamh Kinehan will enter the female 60kg category at the upcoming World Games 2022 in July, with her team-mate, Iman Barlow, entering the 57kg division.
Back in December, Barlow made history by becoming the first British Muay Thai fighter to win gold in modern-era IFMA tournaments at the IFMA World Championships.
She defeated India’s Priya Sharma, Sweden’s Patrica Axling and France’s Anaelle Angerville to claim the gold in the Female Elite 57kg category, automatically qualifying for The World Games 2022.
The trip will be self-funded and therefore both athletes are seeking sponsorship and financial support to make the journey to The World Games 2022 possible.
