The ONE Fight Night 25 weigh-ins didn’t come with it’s fair share of drama yesterday. After the three hour weigh-in window closed, it was announced three fights had been cancelled, including two Muay Thai bouts.
One of those was Amy Pirnie vs Shir Cohen, after the Isreali fighter Shir Cohen failed to pass hydration within the three hour window.
Shir Cohen fails hydration
Amy Pirnie was the first to weigh-in as the window opened. She came in at 114.5lbs, 0.5lbs under the Atomweight limit and provided a hydrated sample.
Immediately after, Shir Cohen arrived on the scales. Although she failed hydration, she also weighed in at 114.5lbs. However, she’d need to return a hydrated sample and still be under the 115lbs limit before the three hour window closed.
She returned two hours later and failed hydration again and this time was 0.25lbs overwight at 115.25lbs.
Under the new ONE Championship protocol, if a fighter doesn’t provide a hydrated sample within the window, the fight is cancelled—and that was the news that circulated across social media yesterday.
However, in a turn of events, we were told by Pirnie’s camp that the fight has been allowed to go ahead. Earlier today the pair faced-off at the ceremonial weigh-ins to make it official.
